Osgood School PSO Curriculum Enrichment Programs – 2021 - 2022
The Cohasset PSO is proud to have provided the students of the Osgood School with $11,000 in curriculum enrichment programming this year, including several science programs during the PSO sponsored STEM Week.
Wingmasters
Jim Parks, a raptor rehabilitator, visited the Osgood School along with his feathered friends. Using his live birds and raptor artifacts, Jim taught our Kindergarteners about the world of owls and First and Second Grade students about North American birds of prey.
Author Visit with Nidhi Chanani
Nidhi Chanani is the author and illustrator of What Will My Story Be?, I Will Be Fierce, Binny’s Diwali and Kong & Me. Students enjoyed a virtual visit with Nidhi to learn about what inspires her work and how her books are made.
Math Estimation Station
Students visited the estimation station where they put their math skills to work by guessing the number of mystery items in a jar.
EMT Visit
The Cohasset Fire Department made a special trip to Osgood to show the students an ambulance and truck in their fleet. The students had a chance to explore some of the amazing technology used by the department.
STEM Nature Trails with Holly Hill Farm
Students took a journey led by Holly Hill Farm through the nature trails behind Osgood. Along the trail, students participated in experiments and hands-on activities featuring different STEM concepts and nature connections.
Planting and Harvesting with Holly Hill Farm
Outdoor experiences at the Osgood school garden were provided in both the fall and spring seasons by farm educators from Holly Hill Farm. Students learned about plant life cycles and got hands on experience planting and harvesting a variety of organic produce.
The Wampanoag Way Program with Plimoth Plantation
Delivered by Native museum teachers who dress in modern clothing and speak from a modern perspective, the Wampanoag Way program allows educators to teacher Kindergarten and First Grade students the story of their people in both past and present times. In addition to the presentation, students were able to see and touch a variety of Wampanoag artifacts.
The Geography Show with Neal Nichols
Osgood Second Grade students got to enjoy the Geography Gameshow, an interactive educational event that involves the creator and host, Neal Nichols, Jr., drawing geographical maps entirely from memory. This program challenged and enhanced the comprehension and learning skills of students through the use of geographical knowledge.
